Logic error in “Joker”? That’s why this central scene does not make the film break

An important turn in “Joker” concerns the relationship of Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix) to its neighbor Sophie Dumond (Zazie Beetz). But a scene seems to undermine this development in the DC film. there has been an error crept in?

Really surprising that phrase does not come: The fact that Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix) has imagined the relationship with the played Zazie Beetz Sophie Dumond in “Joker”, you can see it coming already and this “twist” is also quite clearly resolved.

Arthur has therefore not a fling with Sophie. Neither she laughed at the comedy cellar at his jokes, nor were they eat together or sat at the bedside of his mother. But a scene seems to undermine this revelation: ask Arthur’s mother Penny not (Frances Conroy) him in a scene why he smells like perfume?

Two possible explanations

But when Arthur was not previously Sophie together, then why he smells like perfume? There are two possible explanations:

For one thing, Arthur could have easily sprayed into his delusion with (women) perfume, either complete or on its own wishful thinking, so to speak to his worried mother for her son to play something.

For one thing, Arthur could in his madness just have sprayed with (women) perfume

Secondly, it is of course also possible that the Penny perfume fragrance just imagining. As it turns out later in the course of “Joker” said Penny could have imagined the relationship with Thomas Wayne (Brett Cullen) – that they since imagines a scent that proves that her son had a date, is probably not too far-fetched.

Secondly, it is of course also possible that the Penny perfume fragrance just imagining.

The killer argument

But there is also a very different explanation. For what parts of “Joker” are real and which are not is not easy to say. In the final scene of the film is director Todd Phillips might again everything upside down and so it could be that Arthur has just made up the entire events in “Joker”. Perhaps he was sitting all the time in Arkham and has his supervisor presented this version of events.

But when the action all the time has arisen over just the imagination of a mad and murderous Arkham Inmates, one needs of its history probably no coherence or stringency expected. And also the scene is one in “Joker”, which seems to undermine the Twist with Sophie.

if the action all the time has arisen over just the imagination of a mad and murderous Arkham Inmates, one needs of its history probably no coherence or stringency expected Cinema Scanner.

As it happens, you could use this (alleged) logic errors even as further evidence of the Arthur-hat-to-all-devised theory. And more generally to Handlungsungereimtheiten in “Joker” can be explained quite wonderful and shoot down any allegations in that direction.

“Joker” is running in German cinemas since October 10 of 2019.
